Ian is a RIBA Chartered Architect specialising in residential design with 20 years of experience in the construction industry.
After obtaining Bachelor’s Degrees; BSc(Hons) and BArch(Dist) from The Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff, and gaining recognition in the Building Design’s top 100 Graduates, Ian then finalised his professional studies with a Post Graduate Diploma in Architect at the University of Westminster in 2002.
Ian continued his Architectural career in London, with Gardner Stewart Architects to the level of Associate. Working on notable award-winning large-scale residential and mixed-use projects.
Ian then joined OPEN architecture in Sevenoaks where he became a director of the practice, and was responsible for the concept design, planning approval, and delivery on-site during the construction period.
Projects were a mixture of high-end and bespoke architectural residential projects, works to vernacular and listed buildings, and new build one-off houses for the end user Clients.
Other works included concept, feasibility, planning, and development appraisals for residential development projects.
Following this, Ian formed STUDIO HUDSON architects in 2012,
Ian is the principal architect, responsible for all project matters. His attention to detail and ability to produce clear drawings is exceptional. His approach is pragmatic, with a strong understanding of materials, structural detailing, and construction methods.
Ian is very hands-on and believes that the success of a project is dependent on open communication with the Client to gain a strong and clear brief and personal involvement in the design process. In this way, a clear understanding of the design process, key milestones, and likely timescales are clearly laid out and the Client’s expectations are understood.
Ian is an innovative designer, committed to high-quality architecture and has a keen interest in modern design and contemporary architectural interventions for vernacular buildings.
Ian has worked on a wide range of successful projects and the practice has been awarded:
Tunbridge Wells Civic Society Award 2021: Best Residential Development – 30 Broadmead
Build Architecture Awards 2017: Best Residential Architectural Practice – Western Kent
